A few tips on how to write an attractive job description

The journey to finding the right candidate starts with a well-written job description. The better your description of the role, the better your chance of finding the perfect candidate. A great job description clearly defines where the role sits within the company hierarchy and sets out lines of reporting.
 

Your job description should also include:

  • Job title – avoid using internal terms and acronyms, use a title that is generic but relevant, bearing in mind that candidates use keywords to search roles.
  • Location – be specific where possible, as candidates filter based on location
  • Required skills and qualifications
  • About the company and its culture – often cited as one of the key factors in deciding whether to apply/accept a role, be sure to outline the working environment, company values and mission
  • Key areas of responsibility
  • Which other teams or people they’ll work with regularly
  • Contract type and working hours – if the role allows for flexible and remote working include this information, as it may spell the difference between whether the candidate applies for the role in your organization over another
  • Salary band and exciting benefits – candidates filter roles based on salary, so when possible, it is advisable to at least stating a range and the employee perks
